The Veterans of America face many problems; there are organizations that help the Vets, but not enough people know about the difficulties they cope with on a daily basis. Among these problems is the growing difficulty to feed themselves, and their families. At Castle Point Veterans Hospital there is a food pantry which is volunteer and donation based, and they buy food for, generally, ten cents/pound. But the main problem with that is you can't buy food without money. Volunteers at the Castle Point food pantry know just how fast the food disappears from the shelves. As of October of 2008, this one pantry feeds more than 800 people, and the numbers are steadily rising; most likely everyone can agree, they could use some help.

This organization, Food Fight For Vets, allows the public to give back to those who so willingly put their lives on the line for a country they call home and for friends and family they care about.

Food Fight For Vets holds two walks every year; one in the Spring, and one in the Fall. At these walks, and between walks, we raise funds and awareness for the food pantry at Castle Point.

For teenagers in high school, these walks could be counted as community service or gym credit(any one interested should ask their teacher or coach). It also shows the Veterans that even the younger generations want to help; which makes them feel good to know. Also there are 'wheelchair vets' that do the walks in their chairs, so anyone who is confined to a wheelchair and would like to join us for the walk(s) should feel free to come out and have a good time.
